This must be a 150 cycle fan with the ten poles. It'll run slower and start very fast on 60 cycles. Randy has one similar, though his is a 5-strut model. It is fun to watch start! Even more incredible to watch start is the 710...made for 133 cycles, when you start it, the blades go from standstill to full speed instantly, like it had a 1/4 HP motor!! It also runs slowly with it's eight poles on 60 cycles.

| Mike Coup has a 133 Tesla. It runs fine on one of the speeds. He ran it in his office, 24 hours a day for years. Never got warm.

| FRed, the 1906 Emerson fan catalog says the CF-30 (133 cycles) can be made to run on 60 cycles, without rewinding. I'm looking into that now.

Sam Morgen rewired mine to run on 60 cycles. I think he bypassed some of the coils, (at the switch) and he said that it could easily be rewired back to 133.
It runs slow and quiet with just the slightest hum. If I hook up a variac, and give it lower voltage, the hum goes away.

Oh yeah...Ron, that Tesla is a beauty all right...These Teslas are real nice fans, I love mine. BTW, was the rotor black in the factory originals? Mine is burnished bright.

Fred, my early Tesla appears original and the rotor is, at least on the ouside faces, silver. Could it have been painted years ago during a rebuild? I don't know.
Another, later version Tesla has a black rotor and the whole fan looks completely original and excellent so I would say black rotor on the later ones and who knows on the cast tag ones?
Other Tesla photos in my files show black rotors on most but the one below from ebay to a member shows a silver rotor.

Thanks guys. The rotor was black inside and on the faces. Rob, I repaired the chip with a brass insert. I scribed a line on a piece of heavy gauge brass sheet following the curve of the broken out area. Cut it to size and with some coaxing (solder and cast iron is a stuborn combination) soldered it in place. Then faired it with body filler. Voila' . Nice and strong.

That is the most amazing restore I've seen to date. did you re-wind the stator by hand? or just clean up the stator and put it back together? I would love to some day have the knowledge, skills and the tools to be able to do work like that.
I doubt I will ever get that far though. It's still awesome seeing top notch restoration work though even if I can't do it myself.
