I posted recently about my GE Kidney with the gear noise. Well, after running it for a few hours it has began to quiet down some. I thought I would post some before and after pictures of it. It runs very well and you can easily tell the difference in speeds. I especially like the low speed on the Kidneys. Gear box is a Dave Dalsin casting. I've had 2 of these and the last one I painted so I thought i would just polish this one.

Nice job John. I really like the motor tag. Kidneys look good in red or burgandy. Its gonna be my goal next year to introduce you to the base coat clear coat urethane scene. You will love it. Great job as always.  Rick.

I've installed three of Dave Dalsin's Bronze gearbox castings and they all worked silently and flawlessly. I think the Kidney is an exceptionally fine fan- good speed control, quiet, rugged, etc. I wouldn't even own one without the repo-gearbox- thanks Dave!

Kidneys are way cool.  Always check your plain ring with a magnet when you find one.  So far as I know... I and Steve Sherwood have found examples forged in.....brass. Nice stuff John.

Randy,

I have to agree. This was my second and they are great and a lot stronger than the pot metal ones. The one that came with it has the mount broken but probably repairable by someone. The lid has a small chunk missing by the Oiler opening but probably repairable.

I'm going to run it a few more hours and then take the lid off and see if there are any bronze "particles" in the grease. I think some of the noise is coming from the rear bearing. The screw in retainer will not go all the way down and has a slight taper and I think the hole in the bearing may be a little oversize causing it to move back and forth. Although very slight it may be enough to make noise. If I find that to be the problem, I'll probably have to remove the Rear Cover and install 1 fiber washer in an attempt to lessen the movement. A chore I'm not looking forward to.

Thanks Rick, Kim and Russ for the compliments!

I hear you Rick. I'm getting kind of tired of the old "rattle cans".

Rick H. deserves a complement here too. He painted my 6-wing, Ft. Wayne Electric Co. Kidney with that fabulous 2-part urethane system and it looks terrific!

I would never have invested in that kind of effort without the reliable bronze gearbox to top it all off.

Thanks Todd. I have a new set of Devilbiss Starting Line HVLP Guns all ready to go. I've even got my paint booth plumbed with a water trap, coalescing filter, and a small final filter. I just haven't "fired" it up yet. This one just about killed my index finger from pushing on the can valve.

One of these days I'll get it going. Are you coming to Stan's meet this weekend? Sure would like to chat with you.

John

Kudos to Dave (and Randy) for the bronze kidney...these blow away the pot metal originals. My Hunter (GE) kidney runs all day silently. I now have GE's 1st and 2nd oscillators, (neither are GE though) and both are very reliable. Kidney oscillators just look cool!
