| I just tested my 1912 westinghouse for the 1st time and it won't run when I plug it in. I currently have one fiber washer in the front and one in the back of the rotor and I would say it spins about 2 times after being spung by hand. I tested the AC cord attached to the fan with my ohm meter and got 43 ohms (the same I got without the cord attached) I would think that number would've gone up but I'm not sure. Any suggetions? I talked to Ralph and he said the springs on my internal switch now look to be correctly installed

| Adam, is there a hum, or any motor sound indicating power is getting to the motor?

| Yeah, I just gave it a push and it started going but kinda slow and the blade was real wobbly. I didn't leave it plugged because I didn't know if it would damage anything

| Couple things, the number of fiber washers is irrelevant, its the amount of play, front to back that matters. There should be a little, about a 16th of an inch or so. You said it spins about 2 times when spun by hand, that sounds a bit tight. I'd try removing one washer and see if that helps. My tank starts a bit slow but picks up speed for several seconds. | I spun it again by hand and counted. Its about 3 or 4 times, do you still want me to remove a washer? As it sits right now there is very little play

| Sure, remove the front washer and try it again, cant hurt. I asume you oiled the shaft when you put it together? Last edited on Sat Oct 10th, 2009 10:49 pm by Ralph Bliss

You might have a problem with the cover not being aligned properly. Did you remove the motor? If so it may not be set right? Is this a stamped steel fan?

| It runs now when I plug it in. Turns out 2 of the springs popped lose. For some reason though it took a couple secs for it to start up but it did without my help

Glad to hear that Adam. Be sure to close the loop at the ends of the springs so they dont come off again.

Ralph,
Do you have any ideas how to keep the springs in place? They want to keep popping out. Two especially
