The blade is based on a aircraft blade patent of 18 from the Leinweber boys of Chicago.  The tombstone you are refering to is a junction box that holds the levolier switch.  This should be a TWO speed fan based on the motor windings.  I am unaware of a capacitor for starting, and fail to see room for it in the junction box.  Back then they used those spam can sized capacitors. :D  Your fan must date 38-39.  Jim Funk filed patent to Airmaster the popular 3 wing sickle blade shortly after your model.  Those Funk blades have a long history, Airmaster of TODAY STILL uses Jim's patent design on some of their circulators, and picture it on the badge.

It appears your levolier switch(should exit the bottom of the junction box) is either missing or MORE THAN LIKELY the chain holder is gone from the switch. If the chain holder is missing from the switch no big deal.  There are enough single pull levoliers still in circulation to repair yours and gain back your two speeds.  The other option is a modern 3 pole double throw center-off toggle switch.

Great fan.  Those blades will look outstanding when polished.  Sure do like the shape of the wings.

Ya know something Mike, I haven't opened up my Airmaster Junction box yet.  Something just dawned on me.  There may be a transformer for the low speed inside the box.  Sorry I opened my big mouth so soon, what else is new? :D  In a few days I will investigate. :tumbs

I could have gotten one  of the newer style airmaster's.I had one by the machine I worked.Same cycle style blade.I wish I would have known about airmaster earlier.I could have gotten2 or 3 of them when they shut my plant down.:hammer:I always wondered about that fan.It had such a vintage look for a newer industrial fan. That thing was powerful. That was another reason I had a feeling about it.I had to watch that thing like a hawk.It would always seem to take legs. Thanks for the Info Russ.Do you know anything about Viking.Another interesting project I picked up.:D

Most typically the 24" circulators came with 1/6 horse fractional motors.  Heck...the dual voltage motor in the 24" Vorty I have is rated at 1/8 horse, yet, the fan kicks :censored on high. The 1/4 horse Kingston-Conley on Terry Fisher's 16" blade KMC is in fact overkill.  The fan's assets are obvious as it is EXTREME deco.  That is charactoristic of KMC fans....extreme.  IMHO the modern industrial circulators don't hold a candle to the old girls based on their time period design.  To each his own.  I know nothing of Viking other than hearing the name.
