Don't visit the site in their profile, they're a Viagra distributor.

I asked Larry about that same thing a while back. I was told that they (webmasters) delete like 20 per day, every day. It would be great if there was a delay to confirm the names before they show up as "Members"
I would suggest never clicking on the link of a name like that. You could end up at a porn site that places cookies (and other nasty things) on your computer.

| It's a different one now. It's really like that all the time. It's actually rare when I see the newest member is an actual name.

Where can I find "please welcome our newest member"?
I looked here and there but didn't see any such heading.

Steve, When you are signed in click AFCA Forums (top left of this page) and it should be 3-4 lines up from the bottom.

| Bill - This member name really surprised me - and I'm happy to see that it has been deleted. I've always considered this a 'trusted site'. After all, who would be here except a fan-atic? It is hard to imagine, but obviously necessary, that webmasters have to censor members names. Unfortunately, scammers, hackers, and identity thieves are everywhere. I have a friend who clicked on an email and immediately skull and crossbones started going across his screen. It ended with an obscene message I won't repeat; his entire hard drive was erased. Expensive repair.

Make that 20 EACH for Larry & I, some days even more. Not sure how many Cunningham deletes. The worst offender is gmail! Must be easy to create an account, and not monitored in any way.

I haven't paid attention to new members as shown on the main forum page bottom but see we have a brand new member "JackBrownHetGyeyiwhf".
Why is it so easy to sign up? Would it be better to have a way to make it harder for such people to sign up yet make it easy for those who are truly into fans?
I can't understand what someone gets out of signing up for forums like these guys.

| I think most of the fake new members are doing it for marketing, trying to direct traffic to their website. Others are just trying to cause trouble. Again, I suggest NEVER clicking on any link associated with a fake member name. Last edited on Tue Oct 27th, 2009 10:33 am by Ralph Bliss

I remember the original website here, totally different and moderated by Rod Rogers. One morning, he found that hostile hackers had already installed dangerous software on the AFCA site and were in the process of testing the software. Happily, Rod caught them and took the entire site down. It was down for awhile until he found a new service and todaze site was born. I despise spammers and hackers. Frontal lobotomies for all of them!!

I think account approval is enabled on here though. It's setup in a similar way on another forum I am an admin at. New users can create accounts but they cannot post until an admin approves the new account. When they do create an account they do show as the newest member but they cannot post or do anything.
The only other real option is to set the forum as invite only and thats generally not a good way to ecourage new members to join as they would have to email an admin to get invited first.

Just for the record, these accounts that register here aren't actual people, they're automated computers or "robots" that mass register at thousands of forums each day

If we had to type in those crazy and hard to read numbers wouldn't that automatically eliminate all the computer generated members? That would be a small bother for new members and a big advantage for the webmaster and moderators.

| Ah yes. I forgot about CAPTCHA systems. Even many of those can be read by bots now but it probably would help some.

We have a Captcha on our registration page at DT, it is ineffective....I found and installed a question & answer script and it works beautifully, ever since I installed it we haven't had a single spam account...it works for phpbb only though, not wowbb, but it's something to look for

| I've noticed in the fake members profile, under occupation, it almost always says "Legal" and its almost always gmail for an email address
