There are four photos in the post, Glenn. There must be something wrong with your browser. Why don't you try another?

| That is absolutely beautiful. The prep work before applying white paint is lengthy, as the color will magnify any defect. Makes one really appreciate the long hours spent in getting the fan restored. I wonder why the BFOTY was done away with? Great fan Mark, you should be proud to have it.

I dunno, Kim, I think part of it was just the immense amount of work that went into the entries.
2001 was the only year, as far as I know, that the BFOTY was chosen via ballot like in an automobile concours show, with all FF attendees eligible to vote. The fan also won the award the year before, when the highest-grossing bid at the auction of the BFOTY fans was the criterion.
The fan is actually more impressive in person; the paint looks like porcelain.
Cheers,
Mark

Mark, I struggle with dating R&Ms. Some info from Loren says model 11 (1159, etc) came out in 1912 along with model 15.
1916 came the new stamped steel R&Ms, 4 years after Westinghouse did the tin thing. Loren said the new 6" fan was also introduced and the new 5 blade 8" models. He said that all other 1916 R&Ms had 6 blades. (That seems strange to me but I just don't know- I have an early 2110 12" fan with 4 blades and wrapped steel cage. The wrapped steel cages must have been made only a year or two at the most as you rarely see them).
1920 and there was no longer the little 6 incher nor any 6 bladers. Still the 5 blade model and models 21,22, 24, 25 and 30 were introduced.
If anyone has better or more correct information please correct me.
And Mark, I would have placed your 1159 fan here as a later one since the motor tag is fully etched and the numbers are not stamped in as on some other 1153 fans I have. But my 1159 is also etched. After the 1153 and 1159 models came the "0" models 11530 and 11590 that had felt covered base plates in place of the rubber feet of your fan. Some or all of the "0" models have stamped tags so whether stamped or etched...I can't make sense of it all.Last edited on Tue Aug 12th, 2008 05:12 am by Steve Stephens

Steve,
Based on your information, can we assume the fan was made between 1913-1915?

| Glenn, I don't know. Assumptions have lead me astray sometimes. I hope someday that information for good dating of R&Ms treasures will appear so we will know the scoop.
