I won this early electric switch on Ebay. I can't find anything on the makers. The switch key is marked "Cockburn & Thomas" on one side. Here's an image.

The other side has a Patent Number. I pulled up Google Patents but can't find this one. It may be a Foreign Patent?

Steve, some of these can be a :censored.  And you have just that.  The name Cockburn & Thomas comes up with jack as I am sure you already know.  So then I have been rifling through google patents of 1887 using "Switch" or "Electric switch" and have still "so far" come up dry.  :wondering:  A patent may of been used by C & T from an independent source?  Then on top of it,  the independent source may of used some off the wall name for the switch, or Google themselves may of misspelled the title on the patent to send you on a wild goose chase.  Nice huh? :cry:

Then again you may be on target....foreign. :up:  I'll try again when fresh my friend.  :D

Loren "Brainiac" Haroldson nailed it. I asked how, but he said if he told me, he'd have to kill me. Here's what he found;

"If you punch in both patents 464,444 and 454,087, you will see refernce to your Cockburn patent as the first in this case.  Just read the first paragraph."

As electric stuff goes that switch is pretty early. Thank you Loren.
