I dug something out from the pile from yesteryear that you might dig...and then not. It's for real.... and from the the same time period as the Swan and 77646 AD peds. of late thirties. The fan mounted is a 77646 AA.... Try to find that fan in John Witt's book. The fan is bolted to a octagon pedestal base with a SOCKET TO PLUG YOUR FAN BUILT IN THE BASE!! Gotta be the original wires and plugs as they are heat rotted from sittin in a hot attic. She telescopes just like any other peds.
The good part is the old wrinkle paint on the base and pole are black...should be an easy restore.

Pssssst.....the metal tag on the base states "73646 AK"....could this ped. be just before the Swan or 77646 AD floor models? And what's with the 77646 AA fan mounted on it?? My personal opinion is this was the original fan that came with the ped. Last edited on Sat Aug 16th, 2008 04:04 am by Russ Huber

| That's just like the mid 30's R&M floor pedestal and fan I saw a month+ ago at the flea market. That pedestal had the socket to plug in the fan right at the top part of the pedestal. Neat item these are.

Good...what good for the Homart is good for Jerry. Jerry can skip the Dr. Pepper and mix his distilled potatoes with gear lube. Help keep him regular as well. Last edited on Sat Aug 16th, 2008 05:27 am by Russ Huber

I looked in John Witt's book and found a number of 30s models with "AA" suffix to be floor models(peds.). Unless I missed it....there is no listing in Witt's book for a late thirties 77646 AA model table fan. If someone out there has a 77646 AA table model please post. What bugs me is the base indicates a 73646 AK model on its tag. Yet there is a 77646 model with an odd suffix.
By the way...when I bought this Emerson fan/pedestal the previous owner carried it ahead of me and I saw water run out of the motor. The blade would not budge on the fan. This was a while back. I took it apart yesterday and the switch was like new in it. I removed the stubborn blade carefully and cleaned up the rotor retainer and rotor with a wire brush on a drill. The stator and retaining bolts surprisingly looked decent so I for now I left it in.
I will advise this to the rookies...I had a fiber washer about 1/16-1/32" to thick between the rotor and rear motor housing. When assembled the fan ran great stationary. When I turned to full oscillation it vibrated and resonated significant noise on the back swing. I simply removed the one thick fiber washer shim from the rear and replaced it with one a 16-32" thinner. And then added a thin fiber washer up front to compensate. It is now purring like a kitten out in the kitchen. By the way...this fan is not a capacitor start. Please post if you have a 77646 AA table model please.

I did what you told me today Jerry... and I'll explain what happened...I turned the fan on and it went back and forth blowing air. When I pushed the lever as far as it would go the fan went back even faster blowing even more air. Thanks for telling me to plug it in Jerry....that really helped.
If you check the Fan collector Magazine issue of October 2005 on page 33 you will see another one of these "Things". The owner cheated though, and stuck a 6 wing BB residential on it.
I would love to know for fact if the 77646 AA mounted on it was the original for fact...it fits the time period of the pedestal. I gave the fan a "functional" restoration.
