We are going to putting on four seminars for Fan Fair. Are there any topics attendees would like to see presented? I've turned down the requests to teach "How to make an ass of ones self by posting on the forum" and "How to beat a dead horse". Let us know and we'll find the right people to present them to you. Thanks........

:imao:imao:imao

Are there any "reserve" topics? I can't think of anything that really hasn't been explored already or really needs a lot of explanation. We've had everything from Coin-Op "destruction" to motor rewinding to electroplating. It would be nice if there was a seminar on badge/tag restoration but I think that that's been done too. I wish I could be there this year to do a seminar on mikarta polishing... :wondering:

Nick, this is a request for topics the collectors want to see presented. Tag restoration, blade balancing, simple motor repair, whatever  fits the needs. Maybe some fan history? Tell us what you'd like to see and we'll try to make it happen. One seminar that will be presented is using a laser level to assist in applying pinstripes, being put on by board god Steve Sherwood, in the flesh.........

How about a seminar on rotor balancing? I have a couple of fans whose motors vibrate a bit when run w/ out the blade and could use some grinding down or whatever is needed to balance them. I guess you would need a lathe for that though...

Good idea Jeff, blade balancing is always a popular subject and seems to have received some attention lately here. Let's see if we can get John to put on a class.

Excellent suggestion Todd. I don't believe that has ever been done since I've been around. Rick Hill put on a great class about metal casting in '07. How about showing everyone how to do it? The repro parts fabricating, that is.....not sure about the other.

I had actually hoped for a cute female assistant, but if Jeff promises to not bid against
me on any more "sparkly Westy fans" with my name on them, then I would be willing
to do  a stroboscopic symmetry and static balancing demo.  If it would be possible to be in an area where I could dim the lights, that would be a real plus...
I still have my Ron Jeter "adjustment tool too!

I think you could take care of rotor balancing with a set of "level ways"
The best/cheapest I've found is a Dubro 499 prop balancer.

You can use a Dremel Moto Tool grinder or a belt sander to remove weight on the
heavy side.

If you find the rotor shaft bent, then that's another story, and might require lathe
turning...

John, that is most excellent. I have you down for a seminar in a room where the lights can be dimmed. The room will probably also have a vibrating bed and a hot tub with a slide into it. Any problem with that?

Ron, you are one sick individual. I love it.... but I don't think that particular seminar would be approved by the board. Besides, where are we gonna find a burro and a chimp? And speaking of that, Did you know that the board members are all over at the Luxury AFCA condo this weekend, drinking beer and making fun of us "common" members.

Don't think I'd look good in a skirt and a blonde wig John, that is unless your desprate !! Maybe we could get a female member to assist and hold the tools for us sort of like on the tv show Home Improvment ?? :wondering: HUMM !!

AWW cummon now you've taken all the fun out of bidding on those custom sparkly Westy fans.I thought it was fun bidding and seeing your jaw almost  drop to the floor when the bidding went up to $80.00 bucks.

We have two seminars on board and two more to come up with. Anyone coming to Fan Fair with a special topic they'd like to learn about or present? So far we have Blade balancing using a strobe  and   Applying pinstripes with the aid of a laser level. Seminars can run from a half to an hour or so long. Let us know. Thanks.

The tub is at the AFCA luxury condo. John bought it during his tenure as Webmaster, a sad chapter, in which huge amounts of money were siphoned off the website to pay for his insatiable tastes.

Dave, I'm working on getting a brass fabricator to show the workings of cage repair/fabrication. Also had a suggestion from a restorer to go over what NOT to do and the things that can and do go wrong during restorations. Any thoughts out there?

How about blade removal? That seems to be one of the most often ask questions on the forum. Especially the single bearing Emersons. Thats one of the most important  steps in a restoration. You don't want to start a restoration by destroying a motor trying to remove the blade.:hammer:
