I found this Vornado in a local antique store today. The fan is in pretty good overall shape, except the blade has been shattered and re-assembled using glue and wire. Does anybody have a blade they are willing to part with, and what would be a reasonable price to pay for this?

I got some satin black plastic 3 wing blades from Vornado a few years ago.

They are black plastic and not Bakelite like the original.

Measure the radius from the center of the blade to the blade tip.

Measure the motor shaft diameter.

I'll see if I got something to replace it if you are interested...

Thanks, John. I'll go back and do some measuring, as well as question what the least they'll take for it. Without them knowing a replacement blade is available, what would this be worth in the open market? The price they're asking seems a bit steep to me, but I've never priced a Vornado, much less a pole fan, so I'm out of my league.

How much are they asking for it?

I'm ashamed to say I don't remember exactly, because I wanted to find out if a blade was available first. I seem to remember it was around $125.00. Too much?

You can probably have the blade repaired via RCrescent.

It's probably worth more than that. Usually $150 to $300 on Fee Bay.

Well, I went back and bought it. It runs well on all speeds, but I didn't let it run for very long for fear the blade would fly apart. It even still has part of the original paper price sticker on the base.

The shaft appears to be 3/8", and it's right at 5 3/4 inches from shaft center to end of one blade. I'm posting a picture of the tag and base.

John, I'll need a blade, if you have one. Thanks.

That is neat! Can't wait to see more pics of it once you get the new blade.

As has been mentioned, that model is worth what you paid. You got a good deal there!

Shoot!
I've got several 5 1/4" with 5/16" shaft, but nothing larger.
Sorry Duane, I don't have one big enough for your fan.

John,

I re-measured the shaft, and it is 5/16". I also re-measured the blade, and it is 5 7/8" from end of blade to shaft center.

Would it hurt anything to run it with a smaller diameter blade, since I don't know when, or if, an intact blade in the larger diameter will be available? If it's not going to damage the motor, I'd like to buy one of your blades from you, if you're willing.

I also can't figure out how the blade is attached to the shaft. It appears that it should have a set screw, but it also looks like the set screw (if there was one) is gone. I'm afraid to pull on the existing blade for fear of really damaging it beyond repair. I'm going to call Crescent on Monday and see if they can do anything with the blade that is on it. From their website pictures, they have done some amazing repairs on other blades.

Anybody have any suggestions?

I would call Crescent to see what he can do. You may be able to use a slightly smaller blade but that may weaken the fans true performance.

It does indeed have a set screw...if you see a hole in the blade hub then shine a flashlight in it and you should see the screw....it should be a hex screw, size 3/32 if I'm not mistaken

I managed to get the blade (propeller) off the shaft with no further damage. The set screw was gone, really nothing holding it on the shaft. I'm surprised it didn't go flying off somewhere. John is going to set me up with the blade he has, and Crescent responded requesting pictures. He's not sure he can do anything with the existing one, but he'll take a look.

In the meanwhile, I'll keep a look out for a fan with a damaged housing that has a good blade. If ya'll come across one...LOL.

John, you're the man! The prop arrived yesterday, much to my surprise. I've been working a lot of hours lately, which has cut into my Internet time. LOL. I didn't even know you had shipped it out. I'll get you a check in the mail tomorrow. Thanks!!

The blade is a bit smaller than the original, but slipped right onto the shaft and runs perfectly. Even though the blade is only slightly larger in diameter than the inner cone, the amount of air put out is amazing!

The gentleman from Crescent wrote and said that my prop is beyond comfortable repair, so that is out of the question. He did say he would poke around and see if he could find a serviceable used one of the correct size. In the mean while, if any of you happen to have one, or knows where one is, I'd appreciate a heads up.

OK, I actually read my private messages and read where John said he's sending the blade, and how to pay for it. LOL. Taken care of. Thanks again, John!

Well, I've become well supplied with Vornado propellers. LOL.

Rich, from Crescent, went way above the call to duty and found me an original blade in the correct size. He wasn't real happy with it, said it wasn't as smooth as normal, but that he did have a re-pop blade if I chose to go that way. I couldn't decide, so I bought both. LOL.

While I was waiting to hear back from Rich, I came across a window Vornado in pretty good shape, so I bought it for the blade-just in case. It actually runs pretty well, so it's now in the garage in the refurbish pile.

Add to this the blade that John so kindly sold me, and I'm good to go for a while in the Vornado propeller department. LOL.

I installed the original propeller I got from Rich, it works as well as any other fan I've seen. If this one is not smooth, the smooth runners must be smoooth!
