| wow sorry to hear about that, although I would recommend that you try to post some larger pictures of the extent of damage that there is so we can all see what it is you got. maybe some more up close in detail of the breakage and parts list you might need. I sure there's people here that would be more then glad to help you in anyway like they have helped me. no where are you located? Last edited on Fri Oct 30th, 2009 07:37 am by Peter Garcia

Harley, Instead of buying a whole cage, your cage looks like it could be repaired fairly easy buy one of our highly skilled members. You should get in touch with Nick Loos and if he can't I'm sure he'll point you to one who will.

I think that cage can be repaired. The rear ring looks like it was joined by a brass pin. Drill out both ends of the rear ring where they join and rejoin with new pin or even use a brass crimp connector or piece of tubing as done on some cages.
It is common for the S-wires to break at the rear ring on the "pinned" cage style used from 1901 through 1908. Some people just shorten all the wires and re-insert in the rear ring. I think a small steel pin could be silver soldered to connect the broken wire to what's left in the rear ring. You will have to drill a small hole through the remaining piece in the rear ring and into the broken off piece. I have not seen a repair done that way. Could it be??
Do you have photos of your other cage (the 1900?) Harley?
Save those badges as they are very hard to find and were used only on the 1899 through early 1903 10 wire cages. 1899 and 1900 were attached by a brass "clip" soldered to the inside of the badge; later ones were attached by a stud on the back of the badge and a nut to hold it on.
For anyone contemplating having a GE "pinned" cage sent to you it would almost be necessary to have it double boxed and make sure it can't get crushed at all. They are fragile. Almost half of the wires on my pancakes are broken at the rear ring. Same for other "pinned" cages like Westinghouse, etc. Double box them.

Harley, that's a shame what happened to your treasured pancakes. Many sellers do not know how to pack a fan. In the future have them read this-
http://www.fancollectors.org/info/shipping.htm
Also you should tell shippers any other information on how to pack the exact fan you bought as different fans do require different packing methods and fine-tuning of the recommended methods.
BOTH of your pancakes are 1901 models. You have a SWIVEL/TRUNNION frame fan and a SWIVEL frame fan and the pancakes were made both ways in most years. The trunnion fan is the one that uses the different strut at the bottom which allows the fan to pivot downwards. The SWIVEL frame cannot pivot downwards so doesn't need that different strut.
I hope the blade damage isn't too bad to straighten the blades and CAST hubs. Be careful with the cast hub if you have to straighten it. I don't know how to do that.
The broken off "pin" between the base and motor of the swivel motor may be easy to fix. I don't know how it is attached to the motor but it should go through the base and be double nutted under the base. It looks like one cage may have already had some of the wires broken and fixed at the rear ring. The first thing I would do is to carefully bend the broken cages back to the proper shape and make them round. Then you can see how you might get them fixed.

Harley, Did it take 45 days to get to you? If so, I'd tell PayPal that and there shouldn't be a problem. You can call PayPal and probably get more action. Here's their number 1-888-221-1161. I've always had better luck calling them, unlike eBay there kind and courteous.
