Hi All,

A while back my sister gave me this fan that she bought for a buck at a flea market. It runs but the bearings are shot, the fan runs great when held upside down but won't rotate when right side up. It's a bit beat up, but has a good switch, stator and casing. The guard and blades are bent, but may be salvageable.

The only thing you'd need to pay is shipping, if I don't get any bites in a few days the fan goes to the scrapyard.

You could do one of the following:

1. Balance the blade the best you can, and if it still knocks, take the motor apart and put some wheel bearing grease on the motor shaft and bearing surfaces.

2. Press the bearings out and reinstall them upside down. Balance the blades to prevent further damage.

The bearings are probably worn from running it without oil AND an out of balance blade. I have 2 Emerson 77648 16" fans where this was the case. I got one of them to run normal and quiet (see my youtube video), but the other is a lost cause.

A fan with out of clock blades will kill bearings faster than a well balanced fan with dry bearings.
