| that fan isnt from 1955. my GE "expert" (he knows every timeline and model #) says the fan you show with chrome grilles would be 1956, then in 1957 GE shifted to white painted grilles. Sometime in 58 or 59 GE switched to a large rotary knob on the sides and then in 1960 to the square sided units with the pushbuttons or knob on the side and were the "light blue spruce" color. Keep your eye on ebay, this model seems to come up a lot. I have the literature for 1955 and they only made the single direction three speed+thermo unit with the knobs on top. I have a 1956 version in the carton (sadly without the panels) and a 1957 version i rescued off a curb and am restoring...good luck! they do seem to come up on ebay pretty often,.

The fan you are looking for is a model W4. Here it is on the cover of the 1956 GE fan catalog.
They are out there. Good luck on your search!
Next time I get to Illinois- I'm from Wyanet, 50 miles north of Peoria- I'd sure like to come see your fans!
